Finding A Potential Mate

couple dancing

William Brown and Rober Trivers of Rutgers University, NJ, USA, have reported in the journal Nature ( Nature 438, 1148-1150, 22 Dec 2005) that there is a strong positive association between physical body symmetry and dancing ability, and that this association was stronger in men than in women.

They believe that dancing is an important part of courtship, because it allows women to judge the suitability of men as mates by their ability to dance. Physical symmetry has been shown in several studies to relate to biological well-being and genetic fitness. So a man who can dance well is likely to have good physical body symmetry which means he will be suitable as a biological father.
